It's true, you can set the wiimote and nunchuck to react to motion! Just enter a name, configure the controls for that name and you can turn on the shake fist option to use the wiimote (with nunchuck only) to use smash moves by swinging the wiimote up, down, left, or right. Unfortunately it's a little hard to do but luckily you really have to swing so just a little movement won't do a thing and you can still use buttons for smashes. This is especially fun with Link, Toon Link, and Metaknight. If you own Super Smash Bros. Brawl, you should give it a try!
